COVID - 19

Responding To COVID – 19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable communities living on the fringes. While the impact of the crisis has been felt deeply by everyone, vulnerable and marginalised groups have suffered the most. Frequent shutdowns and lockdowns during the first and second phases worsened the economic condition, and livelihoods suffered increasingly as restrictions halted mobility and income opportunities for vulnerable communities in both rural and urban areas. This led to unemployment, food insecurity, and an increased struggle to meet family needs and requirements.

We took quick initiatives at the forefront of the COVID-19 response and have been working closely with the Government, Corporates, Donors, and the Municipal Corporations of Berhampur and Bhubaneswar. We are also conducting awareness sessions on safety norms and promoting the use of masks by providing face masks, promoting social distancing, and demonstrating hand washing with soap among frontline workers.

We are reaching out to persons with disabilities, skilled weavers, migrant workers, single women households, farmers, the elderly, sex workers, and other vulnerable groups. During the second wave of COVID-19, we worked in close coordination with the administration of Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, and West Bengal to address the emerging health needs of the people.

Our work includes:

  • 2970 food packs and sanitation kits distributed.

  • SHG supported on Face Mask preparation and liaise with business hubs for marketing of the same

  • 15000 Mask Distributed

  • PPE KITs supplied to health functionaries in consultation with the district administration

  • Networking and alliance strengthening

Awareness camp on government welfare schemes and entitlements

Paribartan organised several awareness drives in villages and slum pockets of urban and peri-urban areas with the purpose of providing information on various schemes of the Union and State Governments, as well as their benefits and eligibility criteria to avail the same. During the drive, we collaborated with other organisations, institutions, local self-governments & PRIs, and government departments to provide accurate information to thousands of home-returned workers to help them access these benefits and schemes.

Equipment and Ambulance support to health care facilities

Responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic, our teams worked closely with hospitals and other first responders to address the public health emergency, and support government hospitals to meet the continuing challenge of COVID-19. The increased burden on our healthcare system, particularly in Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal and Odisha, required support for obtaining PPE supplies and other equipment, BIPAP/ventilators, Oxygen Concentrators and Ambulance for transporting COVID patients/suspects, drugs, healthcare workers (doctors, nurses) and medical supplies. We supplied emergency medical equipment and supplies like PPE KITs, BIPAP Machines, Oxygen concentrators and Ambulances to government health facilities in close coordination with the administration.

Vaccination drive and Isolation center

A 10-bedded isolation center was operational from June 2020 to December 2020 in Guali, Barbil, Keonjhar during the second wave of COVID-19. Inmates were counselled on hand hygiene practices, the use of face masks, and maintaining social/physical distancing to curb the spread of the Coronavirus. Critical cases were referred to nearby health facilities for better treatment. The doctor and health team from Narayanposi Dispensary rendered committed services to the inmates of the isolation center.
