Rayadihi is nestled in the foothills of the Malyagiri mountain, the second-highest peak in Odisha. The village is entirely inhabited by the Juang community, classified as one of India’s Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). Known for its scenic beauty, the area remains remote and difficult to access. Most Juang families depend on small-scale farming and bamboo craftsmanship, selling their products in the local markets to make a modest living.

Chandan Balai Munda
Pangila Balaimunda and Mara Balaimunda are parents to two children. Their elder son, Chandan Balai Munda, aged about five years, is attending the Preschool Nutrition and Education Programme at the Chdakmara Centre. His younger brother, Srikanta Balai Munda, is also enrolled in the same pre-school. The tribal couple earns their livelihood by working as daily labourers—either at construction sites or in agricultural fields—struggling to meet their family’s basic needs.

Deepanjali Luhar
On 24th August 2024, despite the heavy rain, a Community-Based Surveillance (CBS) training session was scheduled in the Brajrajnagar UPHC area. MAS members gathered at the community center, eager to participate. Among them was Deepanjali, one of the frontliners, who attended the training with a deep sense of responsibility for the health and well-being of her community. Her enthusiasm for improving the lives of her fellow community members was palpable.

Jaya Muni Gagrai
Jaya Muni, a tribal girl, became an orphan at the age of 8 and now lives in a small thatched house with her uncle and aunt. After her father's death, her mother remarried, leaving Jaya behind. Faced with hardship, she had to drop out of school in ninth grade to assist her aunt with domestic chores. Over time, she matured and became a pillar of support for her aunt and uncle, both of whom work as daily laborers in construction.

Jogendra Bhoi
I am Jogendra, not overlooked during the outbreak of COVID-19. Volunteers were actively engaged in collecting information about the households most in need of receiving Food and Hygiene Kits. During the selection process, it was unanimously decided to prioritize families with individuals living with disabilities. The outbreak of COVID-19, along with the prolonged lockdown lasting for over seven months, had a severe impact on the lives and livelihoods of people with disabilities who rely on small businesses.
