Jogendra Bhoi
Chandaka, Bhubaneswar, Odisha
I am Jogendra, not overlooked during the outbreak of COVID-19.
Volunteers were actively engaged in collecting information about the households most in need of receiving Food and Hygiene Kits. During the selection process, it was unanimously decided to prioritize families with individuals living with disabilities. The outbreak of COVID-19, along with the prolonged lockdown lasting for over seven months, had a severe impact on the lives and livelihoods of people with disabilities who rely on small businesses.
One such individual is Jogendra Bhoi, a Dalit from Chandaka village, who used to support his family through the earnings from his pan shop. With the shop completely closed due to the restrictions, he has had to rely on his extended family and friends for support. Jogendra shared that when physical contact is restricted and public facilities remain inaccessible, persons with disabilities like himself face significant challenges in managing mobility and accessing essential services. "Sometimes, we are overlooked," he explained. "Thankfully, I have great cooperation with my neighbors, and whenever I need help, they are always there for me."
As mentioned earlier, Jogendra arrived at the distribution point promptly at 9:15 AM. After signing in, he received his Food Pack and Hygiene Kits. The volunteers then loaded the materials onto his tricycle, giving it a gentle push to set it rolling.
Jogendra, who resides in a small thatched house, is somehow managing to support his family. He expressed his gratitude, saying, "The packs I received will ease my suffering and help meet our food requirements. I am truly happy that all 12 families with disabled members received this generous support from SAVE the CHILDREN." He concluded with a heartfelt, "I am thankful."
